What is a KPI?

A KPI, or key performance indicator, is a number that helps a team understand whether an important business result is improving, getting worse, or staying on target.

Beginner reporting tip

Do not build a dashboard with too many KPIs. Start with a few important metrics, add a target for each one, and make sure the data source is clear. A clean dashboard with 8 useful KPIs is usually better than a crowded dashboard with 40 unclear numbers.
